The challenge
Conceptualize and design an innovative solar energy sales service for non-interconnected zones (NIZ), enabling EPM to sustainably expand its energy coverage, meet regulatory requirements, and generate value for both the company and rural communities.

Results obtained
- The pilot project in Zaragoza, Antioquia, was successful from the perspective of the service as a prepaid model under a postpaid technology (availability and access to energy), demonstrating the technical and social viability of the solar energy sales service.
- All legal and regulatory requirements were met, ensuring the service’s compliance.
- Participating families reported a significant improvement in their quality of life due to access to reliable solar energy.
- A service model was developed that can be replicated in other non-interconnected areas (ZNI), promoting the project’s expansion to other regions of the country where the EPM group operates.
