Is Double Diamond obsolete?

For years, methodologies such as Design Thinking, the Lean Startup method, or the Design Council’s Double Diamond Model have been the compass that has guided designers and companies through the process of creating products and services. However, the emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has opened up a range of unimaginable possibilities, challenging us to rethink our ways of working.

It is in this context that the Board Of Innovation has presented the Stingray Model, an evolution of the Double Diamond that harnesses the power of AI to drive innovation to new heights. At Blaster, we have always been passionate about exploring new frontiers in service design, and the Stingray Model fits perfectly into our vision, and that is why we are going to tell you a little more about this model.

The Stingray Model: Facing the need for a methodology that makes better use of AI

In light of this new scenario, the Board of Innovation has introduced the Stingray Model, an evolution of the Double Diamond that leverages the power of AI to take innovation in product and service design to the next level. This model, composed of three key phases (Train, Develop, Iterate), allows teams to explore an exponential number of solutions, experiment more quickly, and make more informed decisions based on data.

What does the Stingray model look like?

As we said before, it consists of three main phases. The first phase, Train, is where objectives and success metrics are defined and internal and market information is collected. In the second phase, Develop, solutions are explored on an exponential scale. With the help of AI, the largest number of solutions are generated and analyzed at once. And in the last phase, Iterate, solutions are tested and evaluated with the help of AI, considering factors such as attractiveness, feasibility and viability.

The advantages of the Stingray Model

  • Deeper analysis: AI allows you to better understand the problem and its possible solutions, avoiding human bias.
  • More agile experimentation: Test ideas and solutions more quickly and with fewer resources, automating processes.
  • Smarter decisions: AI helps you make decisions based on data and objective analysis.
  • Greater creative capacity: AI can be a great support for the idea of generating ideas, because it allows us to explore a greater volume of alternatives in less time.

A future full of possibilities for design

At Blaster, we’re excited about the opportunities this presents and are committed to continuing to explore new ways to use technology to improve our services and those of our customers.
