Did you know that brands waste more than 70% of the potential for recall that their points of sale have? The explanation can be found in Edgar Dale’s Cone of Learning, which indicates that people only remember 30% of what they see. Although we may think that designing a point of sale is simply about making it visually attractive, in reality, if we want to generate a memorable experience, we must do much more.
The importance of a complete sensory experience
If our customers live experiences that involve their other senses, participating in activities within the space and interacting with the people, products, sounds and aromas present, recall can increase up to 90%. Taking advantage of this from interior design and experience design is crucial for our brand to stand out and be remembered.
Point of sale design: focusing on customer experience
When designing our point of sale, whether it is a clothing store, a restaurant, a jewelry store, a doctor’s office, a bookstore, or any other type of establishment, we must always think about the customer experience. This involves taking a mental journey through each of the moments that the customer will experience, from their arrival to their departure. Ask yourself: What will happen at each moment? What will they see, smell, hear, say, do?

Defining clear objectives for each moment
For each moment of the experience, it’s important to define what you want to achieve with the customer at that moment. For example, if you have a shoe brand and you’re going to create your new point of sale in the best shopping center in your city, think about the moment when a potential customer stops to look at your window. What do you want them to think and feel at that moment? Intrigue, amazement or admiration? Defining your objective will help guide your ideas.
Generate multiple ideas on how to achieve your objective for each moment of the visit, evaluating which ones will be most effective. Make sure to include novel solutions, involve the customer interactively and use their five senses. Display your products creatively and allow your customers to interact with them in a variety of ways. Engage them with expert service that guides the customer throughout their journey and teaches them about your brand, products and story.
How to create a memorable space
Retail interior design is not just about aesthetic design, but about creating a complete customer experience. From the window display that invites you in, to the route inside the establishment, to the service offered, each element must be carefully thought out to maximize customer recall and satisfaction. Make sure your space is welcoming and memorable, leaving a lasting impression on each visitor.
