For a long time, design focused on solving immediate human problems, creating functional and accessible products. However, global crises like climate change and resource scarcity have revealed the limitations of this traditional approach.
At Blaster Design, we believe eco-design can do more than improve human life: it can regenerate the natural systems that sustain our planet. That’s why we’ve developed a new generation of services based on sustainability, circular economy, and regenerative design, created to help companies not only adapt to current challenges but lead a more conscious future.
The New Perspective for Design Methodologies
Human-centered design marked a milestone in design evolution. By placing user needs at the heart of every decision, we improved products, services, and experiences, creating more intuitive, desirable, and user-adapted solutions. However, over time it became evident that while these approaches achieved important advances, environmental and social impact was not sufficiently considered. Today, the planet needs more than efficient products; it needs a design that serves all living systems, not just humans.
This is the principle of life-centered design. An approach that proposes a fundamental mindset change: we do not design only to satisfy immediate needs, but to create a sustainable and regenerative future. Life-centered design seeks to harmonize our actions with nature and promote long-term well-being for all living beings and the ecosystems that sustain our existence. It is a transition towards a model where innovation benefits not just people, but the planet.

Backcasting: Designing the Future from the Present
One of the fundamental pillars of our approach is the backcasting methodology. Unlike traditional forecasting, which projects the future from current trends, backcasting begins by imagining an ideal, desirable, and regenerative future, and then works backward to identify the necessary steps to achieve it.
How is backcasting applied to eco-design?
This approach is especially powerful when applied to eco-design and sustainable designs because it forces us not only to think about immediate challenges but to visualize a completely different future: a future where companies operate within planetary limits, regenerating resources and actively collaborating with ecosystems. From this vision, we can design solutions that not only solve current problems but also build the foundations for that desired future.
